How to make essential oil face wash
Face wash is something that lots of us use because we either don’t like soap or simply find it easier to work with. But you can also use essential oils in face washes to make your own and even tailor the recipe for different skin types. Lets start with the basics of making face wash with essential oils.
Ingredients
- Liquid Castile soap is a gentle cleanser that can help you clean the dirt and grime off of your skin without stripping it. Use 1/2 cup to a 16 ounce container.
- 2 Tbsp. of a skin enhancer (such as, witch hazel, aloe vera gel, rosehip seed oil, jojoba oil, or sweet almond oil)
- Approx. 30 drops of essential oil
- 1 cup distilled water
Normal skin face wash
The Foaming Face Wash for normal skin is perfect for those who want a gentler soap. This gentle face wash will clean and refresh your complexion, leaving it looking clearer than ever before!
It’s actually super easy to make this recipe too – all you need are:
- 1/2 cups Castile Soap,
- 2 Tbsp Aloe Vera Gel,
- 20 drops Lavender Essential Oil
- or 10-20 drops of Melaleuca essential oil depending on preference
- 1 cup distilled water in an 16 oz foaming soap container
Just mix these ingredients together with a spoon until they’re well combined then enjoy as desired.
How to use DIY face wash
Once you have made your face wash, you can use it the same way you would any other face wash. You can even store in smaller containers and keep one beside the sink and the others on the shelf. You can even use it to remove make up at the end of the day.
Adapting the wash recipe for sensitive skin
The great thing is that the basic idea of the essential oil face wash is that you can make them with slightly different essential oils depending on your skin.
For example, if you have acne-prone skin, try using 10 drops lavender essential oils, 10 drops lemongrass, 10 drops melaleuca oil with 2 tbsp witch hazel and 1 cup of distilled water to the Castile soap.
For sensitive skin, try using 10 drops sandalwood essential oil, 10 drops frankincense oil, 10 drops helichrysum and 5 drops rosemary oil with 2 tbsp jojoba oil and 1 cup distilled water with the Castile soap.
If you suffer with dry skin, then adapt the recipe to use 20 drops lavender essential oil 10 drops frankincense essential oil with 2 tbsp sweet almond oil, 1 cup of distilled water and the soap.
Lastly for older, mature skin then you can help the face wash to give skin a little boost by using 10 drops lavender essential oil 5 drops frankincense essential oil, 5 drops sandalwood, 5 drops helichrysum, 5 drops myrrh with 2 tbsp rosehip oil, 1 cup distilled water and Castile soap.
Use with care
As with any product you add to your skin, always be a little careful. Test the face wash first on somewhere like your arm. Then test a little patch of skin away from the front of your face. Leave it for a while to make there’s no reaction before using it all over your face.
With the right blend of essential oils, face washes can be a great DIY product to make. You can customise the blends to suit your skin type and even test different things for different times of the year. You can adapt blends as you find them working best and have a little fun!
