Individual fall essential oils
When you are looking at fall essential oils, the first place to start is the individual scented oils themselves. Once you have found the ones you love, you may not want to go any further and just enjoy them as they are. Or you can look to start making your own fall essential oil blends.
Some of the most popular oils for the fall include:
- Cinnamon
- Lemon
- Sweet orange
- Fir
- Eucalyptus
- Clove
- Vanilla
- Tea tree
- Rosemary
- Peppermint
- Pine
- Frankincense
- Bergamot

How to blend essential oils
Some of these scents I would happily use them on their own. I love rosemary and peppermint as well as eucalyptus. But I’m not so keen on tea tree, it seems to get in the back of my throat after a little while. Reading about it, there’s definitely a case for blending it with others to make custom blends.
When you are looking to blend oils, you want to consider a few things before you start. Where and when it will be used can impact what you put in it and how you use it can change things. For me, it would be to add to my diffuser to scent the living room. Other people might want to use it in the bedroom or even on themselves.
Below we have some ideas of the kind of oils that blend well together and have a fall feel to them. The actual process of blending is pretty simple. Combine the oils, smelling as you go to see what you like then add the top note and smell again. Do a drop at a time while you are testing to get a mix you like or just go with what is recommended if that’s easier.
Fall essential oil blends
You can definitely play around with any blend recipes that you see – that’s the joy of DIY fall essential oils. But here are some ideas to get you started.
Pumpkin spice
There’s nothing more fall than pumpkin essential oil but it isn’t always the most popular. However, you can make a blend that is more like the famous pumpkin spice that features in lattes and other drinks. For this, you will need 5 drops of clove, 1 drop of nutmeg, and 1 drop of cinnamon.

Spicy Chai
This is another drink inspired one and uses 3 drops of cassia with 3 drops of clove and 2 drops of ginger for a spicy, warm scent.

Fall air
This is a blend of either fir or eucalyptus with sweet orange then add a spice that you like such as nutmeg or clove to create that fall evening air smell.
Autumn spice
This one is a stronger, spicier smell so you probably need less in your diffuser. Mix cinnamon with clove, and vanilla, and then add a citrus such as lemon or sweet orange.
Cinnamon fusion
Cinnamon is a classic fall scent and this fusion just adds a little depth to it. Start with a basic ratio of 3 drops of cinnamon with 2 drops of orange then 1 drop ginger. You can vary the amounts to suit what you like. You can also try adding 1-2 drop of vanilla or either another spice such as clove or nutmeg – but don’t do both as it will just be an overwhelming spicy smell!

Crisp autumn air
Another air scent, this one is a simple blend of two drops each of orange, lemon, and fir. If you want to make it a little spicier, add a drop of bergamot. Or you could try something like eucalyptus or peppermint in it.

Festive Halloween
Perfect for Halloween, this blend uses 2 drops of orange, 2 drops of cinnamon, and 1 drop of frankincense. You can also add 1-2 drops of bergamot as well.

Gingerbread cookie
If you don’t have time to make some actual gingerbread cookies, you can create a diffuser blend that recreates the smell. Use 2-3 drops of cinnamon and ginger then 1-2 drops of nutmeg and clove.

Orange cider
Cider is a classic fall drink because we harvest apples around this time. This orange cider mix uses 2 drops of sweet orange and 2 drops of rosemary with 1 drop of clove to add a touch of spiciness. You can test swapping this with cinnamon or cardamon if you prefer those scents.

Woodland stroll
Create a smell like walking through the forest by mixing 3 drops of Frankincense with 2 drops of white fir and 1 drop of cedarwood. Another variation would be 4 drops of cypress with 2 drops of white fir and 2 drops of sandalwood.

Fall scent everywhere
The great thing about fall essential oils is that you can find scents that you associate with fall (or any other time of the year) and you can use them or blend them with others. It lets you completely personalise how your home smells and can be used in all sorts of other products.
