Gift giving is a challenge at this time of year, especially if you’d like to give to co-workers, teachers, carpool members and neighbours. You’d like to give a gift that’s a little different but not expensive. Rose scented bath salts come to the rescue. Elegant and useful, as well as budget-conscious. Let’s dive into how to make them.

What you’ll need to make bath salts
Supplies list:
- Pink rose petals
- Rose essential oil
- Epsom salts
- White glue
- Ribbon
- Glue gun and stick

- Cork topped glass container or canning jar
For starters, you’ll want to have pink rose petals. Not pink, yellow or other colours and there’s a reason for this. Pink rose petals stay pink when you dry them but red turn black and yellow and white end up more of a brown. So if you to get everything to work nicely and look lovely, pink is the way to go.
If you find rose essential oil is a little on the expensive side (but it is worth it, trust me) then you can substitute it for rose geranium oil instead.

The glass container or jar can be anywhere from one pint to one quart, depending on how big a gift you want to give! And if you want to leave it plain, you can simply fill with the bath salts, seal it and give it as a gift that way.
Variations
Add a ¼ cup of dried skim milk powder to the Epsom salts for a milk bath.
Include ¼ cup of pink Himalayan mineral salt to each container and mix well.
Instead of rose essential oil use orange oil and a dried orange slice as the decoration.
For an energizing bath substitute peppermint oil for the rose oil. Tie with a green ribbon and a few green silk leaves.
Homemade Rose Essential Oil Bath Salts
Make your own homemade bath salts with rose essential oil and even make them into amazing gifts
Materials
- Fresh pink rose petals
- Rose essential oil
- Epsom salts
- White glue
- Ribbon
- Glue gun and stick
Tools
- Dehydrator
- Glass bowl
- Spoon
- Cork topped glass container
Instructions
- Cut the stems of the roses to about 2 inches long. Place in the dehydrator with the stems poking through the tray and the flower face up.
- Dry completely until the petals are crisp.
- If you don't have a dehydrator. Cut the stems to 12 inches. Fasten the stems together with a rubber band. Hang upside down in a dry warm place, preferably out of the light, until dry.
Making the bath salts
- Place about a cup of Epsom salts into a glass bowl. Add 2 to 3 drops of rose essential oil and mix well with the Epsom salts. Continue to add Epsom salts and rose essential oil, mixing as you go.
- This method disperses the oil throughout the Epsom salts. You could add a few drops of red food coloring to lightly tint the salts, if you like.
- Fill each glass container with Epsom salts.
- Paint the white glue around the rim of the container and put in the cork.
- Paint the glue over the cork as well. Use several thin coats. This seals the bath salts.
- Tie a ribbon around the rim of the container ending in a bow. Hot glue the dried rose to the middle of the bow. Right before giving add one drop of rose essential oil to the dried rose.
- Print labels that say "Rose Scented Bath Salts - Add ½ cup to a tub of very warm water."
